large.jpg (57516 bytes)     Helen and Ben and the cats have been vacationing for months on their new boat, camping, fishing, beachcombing and enjoying the beauty of Hawaii's beaches. Then one morning a rifle shot rings out, shattering the serenity and causing them to run for cover. In retrospect it seems as though this was a warning shot, but in real-time they had no forewarning of the shocking events that lay in wait.
As danger comes close to home, Helen faces something from her past; something she would just as soon ignore. Fellow sleuths, Nacho and Justin, with the help of a clumsy undercover agent, form a circle of protection. As the strange events continue, local police and firemen come to the rescue, and Helen and Ben's friends go way beyond the call of duty to protect them.
It will take courage, skill and deductive reasoning to find a solution to the chaos, but what's the harm in having a little fun along the way? . . . barbecues, meetings at Pineapples, a hunt for a dead body, dinner out, a baby shower? . . . can't hurt!

International News Report:

Attempted Cruise Ship Takeover Near Fiji.
Eyewitness accounts of an attempted takeover at sea of the
FAR JOURN, an American cruise ship in the south Pacific, are filtering in. Apparently five escaped convicts from Pitman Island, more commonly known as Prisonville, boarded the cruise ship at midnight Thursday, 50 miles east of her scheduled stop in Fiji. They took over the helm for three terrifying hours, holding the Captain and first officers at gunpoint. Demands were made for a helicopter and $50,000.

line.jpg (865 bytes) Passengers became suspicious when the engines slowed to a stop, causing rumors to spread throughout the ship. Confirmed reports from crewmembers support a story that an older couple, identified as Mr. and Mrs. James French, assumed to be royalty (country unknown, possibly Norway or Britain,) demanded to see the Captain. Perhaps they were unaware of the danger, but reports say that they appeared to be oblivious to it . . . in any event, they flung the door open and strode into the tense situation at the helm. The door instantly slammed shut. Crewmembers report that five minutes later the prisoners, handcuffed together in a sort of conga line, were led at gunpoint to the upper deck of the ship. line.jpg (865 bytes) At 3:15 A.M. at least twenty passengers reported sighting a large black helicopter approach the ship from the west. Those who witnessed its landing noted that it was unusual to see men wearing black suits and ties in the tropics. It took only minutes for these men to load the criminals aboard, lift off and disappear silently into the dark night.
Our correspondent at the scene, Mitsy Diddleford, reports that all five criminals were flown to Suva, the Capitol City of Fiji, where they will be detained for a few days, then returned to their prison cells on Pitman Island.
Mitsy has had no luck getting an interview with Mr. and Mrs. James French, the "royal" couple, who seem to be missing from the ship.
